Benidt, raised near Milwaukee, founded the Charles E. Benidt Foundation in 2003 to support organizations reflecting his Christian values. A foundation challenge grant later funded a major renovation of the Seminary's dining hall complex, which includes Wartburg and Koburg halls. The complex was renamed to honor his grandfather, Johann Hinrich Benidt. Though Chuck died in 2006, his legacy continues through the foundation and the Benidt Center. panorama_85F91FE8_8EB0_C3F8_41D5_DDD2D24307A5.subtitle = Concordia Seminary exists so the Good News of Jesus Christ can be proclaimed in this land and around the world, in this generation and for generations to come. It was rededicated Feb. 6, 2025, for renewed use by the Seminary community as a place for personal prayer. In particular, its mission theme and printed resources invite prayer for current pastors, deaconesses, and missionaries; for more harvest workers; and for the lost. A key element in the renovation of the prayer chapel was the removal, cleaning, repair and reinstallation of the large stained glass windows, of which the most prominent is the Mission Window. panorama_85F87421_8EB3_C468_41D6_7BA903B2B895.subtitle = The Chapel of the Holy Apostles was renovated in 2024 through the generous contributions of Seminary supporters. Academic Quadrangle

Through the Walther Archway to the north is the Academic Quadrangle, a peaceful garden rimmed by flowering bushes and shrubs that also features a small koi pond constructed by seminarians. Students, faculty and staff often engage in conversation, study and contemplation here. Werner Auditorium, where the Seminary hosts classes and public events, and Wyneken Hall and Pieper Hall — which contain classrooms, faculty and administrative offices — border the area.

Benidt Community Center

Charles "Chuck" E. To learn more: Benidt Center

Carillons

The 49-bell carillon atop Luther Tower was dedicated in 1971 as a memorial to all pastors who have served The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Cast in 1969–70 by the van Bergen foundries in the Netherlands and South Carolina, it is one of approximately 180 carillons in North America. The largest bell weighs 2½ tons; the lightest, 17 pounds. Chapel of the Holy Apostles

The Chapel of the Holy Apostles was renovated in 2024 through the generous contributions of Seminary supporters.

On the library's east side stands a replica of Concordia Seminary's original "Log Cabin College," built in 1839 by German-Saxon immigrants in Perry County, Mo.
The one-room school opened with 11 students ages 5-15 and later became the first college and seminary of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The original 20-by-17-foot cabin, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was moved to Altenburg, Mo., in 1912. The campus replica was built and dedicated in 1938. A replica of the original Luther statue in Worms, Germany, it was dedicated at the Seminary's former Jefferson Avenue location in 1903 and moved to the current campus in 1926. Standing more than 9 feet tall on a granite base of more than 12 feet, the statue depicts a mature Luther in academic robes, his hand resting on the Bible he translated into German. Luther Tower and Carillons

Located on the east side of the Seminary’s Main Quadrangle, Luther Tower, designed by Charles Klauder and standing 156 feet tall, rises above the campus. It is the Seminary’s most iconic symbol. Although included in the original 1922 plans for the campus, the tower was not completed until 1966 when the Seminary secured funding for its construction. Atop Luther Tower is a 49-bell carillon, which chimes before chapel services and on special occasions.

The quad hosts Commencement exercises each spring. Surrounding it are Schaller Hall, Guenther Hall, Stoeckhardt Hall and Pritzlaff Hall, which houses the Presidents Room — formerly the original library — and the Ministerial Formation offices. President’s Plaza

Near the Walther Archway is the bell from the Seminary’s former Jefferson Avenue campus in St. Louis, where it was used from 1883 to 1926. The bell is mounted on a solid slab of Indiana bluff limestone.
For a number of years, the bell was mounted in a wooden tower located where the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus now stands. Concordia Historical Institute acquired the bell and generously returned it to be displayed on campus. To learn more: President's Plaza

The Fountain

The fountain on the north side of the Kristine Kay Hasse Memorial Library was initially constructed to serve as part of the library’s temperature and humidity control system. While it no longer is needed for this purpose, the fountain is renowned for its beauty. Swimming in the fountain is not permitted; however, it is an unofficial tradition for first-year residential Ministerial Formation students to jump in to celebrate the completion of their Greek course.

Wartburg Hall

Wartburg Hall is named after Wartburg Castle, where Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German. After the 1521 Diet of Worms, Luther was declared an outlaw, and supporter Frederick the Wise secretly sheltered him at Wartburg Castle for 10 months. Today, Wartburg Hall serves as the Seminary's main dining hall. A notable architectural feature is the east gable's airplane capstone, depicting a biplane above a banner reading "Oct. 26, 1924" — the date the Seminary's cornerstone was laid.
